She is an Air Force veteran graduating from the United States Air Force Academy and then doing active duty in the Republic of Korea and Washington DC. She went to medical school at the George Washington University School of Medicine, Cutaneous Oncology fellowship at UC San Francisco, dermatology residency at UC Irvine, and Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship at St. Johns Institute of Dermatology in London, UK.

Dr. Truitt lives in San Diego with her husband, two boys, and her German Shepherd Bella.
